Qualitative Research & AI: We Can, But Should We?  Online

Qualitative researchers have no shortage of options and, more recently, training and resources for incorporating AI in all phases of their designs. At the same time, like "traffic cops on Valium," many academic and industry voices urge AI developers and users to stop, or at least to slow down, and reflect on the potential dangers of widespread AI adoption. In late capitalism, where technological advances outpace ethical deliberation, this discussion-based workshop offers a pause to consider dilemmas from 'real' AI-assisted qualitative studies and recent literature, and to ask perhaps not whether but why, for what reason(s), and to what ends qualitative researchers might make (good) use of AI. By Dr. Jennifer Wolgemuth, USF Education.
