Evaluating AI for Ethical Use in Research Online
Not all AI tools are created equal, and not every task calls for the same one. This session steps back from any single platform to build a framework for critically evaluating AI toolsets: what data they're trained on, how they handle privacy and bias, what disclosure or citation practices they require, and where their use may be inappropriate or restricted. Rather than hands-on practice, participants will work through real-world scenarios to weigh the tradeoffs between convenience, accuracy, and ethical responsibility. The goal is to leave with a durable set of questions you can apply to any AI tool, current or future, as you make informed decisions about if and how to bring it into your research.
