Impact and Book Publishers

Impact and Book Publishers Online

This workshop looks at scholarly publishing from the perspective of publishing books and book chapters. Deciding where to submit a book manuscript or to write a book chapter can be challenging, especially if you don’t know much about the publisher. This workshop will assist you in looking at book publishers with a critical eye in the decision making process. Objectives for this session include:

  • Identifying metrics associated with books (Book Citation Index)
  • Identifying other qualitative indicators of publisher quality and impact (WorldCat holdings, Google Scholar citations)
  • Negotiating book publishing contracts
  • Avoiding vanity press or predatory book publishers
  • Discussing the advantages and disadvantages of publishing an open access monograph
